Why is thought tracking important

Now each child gets a chair of their own. Thought tracking also called thought tapping is a quick fire strategy enabling children to verbally express their understanding of characters and situations without the need for rehearsal. Write down the specific situation, a brief description of your feelings, and what you were thinking just before and during the unpleasant feeling.

What do you notice? It is helpful to begin to notice patterns in specific situations and triggering events, so that we may better predict our tendencies. A still image is data in which a grid or raster of picture elements pixels has been mapped to represent a visual subject, e.

Still images can be naturalistic , a photograph of an important moment or abstract , more representational of feelings or an event. Condensing emotions, events or relationships into an image is an excellent way of ensuring these are communicated in a detailed and effective way.

That provoked the interest in me — I did one at Chester, and then at Lancaster I did The Rose between Two Thorns, which was the first entirely verbatim play that Tve done. An actor sits in the hot-seat and is questioned in role , spontaneously answering questions they may not have considered before. Hot-seating helps an actor become more familiar with their role. The questioners should also act as observers as feedback can be very useful.

Ask questions that force the actor to consider the life of their character in depth and beyond the world of the play. Writing it down quickly ensures that the incident is still fresh in your mind and makes it more likely that you will be able to recall the important details. The first step in completing a thought record is to note down some information about the situation or context in which you noticed this change in emotion.

This will help you and your therapist to understand more about this event, and about what your particular triggers are. The next step is to describe your emotions and body sensations. What was the shift in emotion that prompted you to complete a thought record? Finally you need to record the thoughts and images that you had at the time — particularly those which came just before the change in how you were feeling.

Helpful questions to ask yourself include:. Our thinking can become biased, but it is within our power to change the way we think.

Identifying thoughts is the first step in managing our minds. Once we can reliably catch our automatic thoughts we can examine them to see how accurate they are and how fair we are being with ourselves. Your job is to be the defence, prosecution, and judge! Identify the thought you want to work on and write it down. Only work on one thought at a time. Give the thought an initial belief rating. How strongly do you believe in the truthfulness of that thought right now? Next, make a list of all the reasons why that thought might be true.

You might find it helpful to ask yourself:. Now read the original thought, all of the reasons why it might be true, and all of the reasons why it might not be true. Do this out loud if you can. What do you notice? Why do I need to record my thoughts?
